Greek Yogurt Bagels

June 14, 2021

Greek Yogurt Bagels

Bagels are the ULTIMATE in breakfast, lunch, or snack food considering they can be topped with unlimited combinations.
Whether you're enjoying them from an on-the-go vendor or a fancy brunch restaurant, they seem like a bakery item that is super complicated to make – but let me show you a bagel recipe that is super easy AND delicious!
This recipe is full of protein and calcium compared to your regular store-bought bagels, using Greek yogurt as the star ingredient!
You can try to mix and match toppings to create your perfect bagel, whether your favourite is cheesy cheddar or everything bagels! Personally, I like a combination of both!

Ingredients

  • 3 1/2 cups all purpose flour
  • 4 tsp baking powder
  • 2 tbsp oregano dried
  • 2 tbsp basil dried
  • 2 tsp garlic powder
  • 2 tsp onion powder
  • 2 tsp black pepper
  • 2 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt (if you don't have Greek yogurt, you can use cream cheese and milk)
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • 1/2 cup cheddar cheese (jalapeño cheddar would also taste great)
  • everything bagel seasoning to taste
  • salt to taste (optional, omit if you are using everything bagel seasoning)

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Mix together the flour, baking powder, and spices in a large bowl.
  • Add in Greek yogurt, and knead the dough to mix.
  • Continue to roll and knead the dough until it becomes one smooth ball.
  • Divide the ball into 10 to 12 equal pieces.
  • To shape the bagels; roll out each piece into a log, then join the two ends together to form a circle. *Try not to make them too thick, because they will expand once cooked.
  • Place the bagels on a parchment-lined baking sheet, and brush each bagel with egg wash.
  • Sprinkle the top of the bagels with some cheese and/or everything bagel seasoning. I did a mixture of both.
  • Bake for approximately 30 minutes, or until tops are golden.
